El Patrón

El Patrón - The Boss

Narcotic trade, drug peddlers and traffickers are a menace, especially in North and South Americas.

Drugs such as Cocaine, Heroin are in high demand in US, and Columbia is the hub where these are produced. While Mexico is the bridge between supply and demand, they are the transporters and sellers many a times in the US.

While US is even today waging a war against these traffickers, they have shelled millions of Dollars and lost Lakhs of lives in the fight.

The war against drug traffickers since early 80s have always been dark, bloody and brutal with US's military aid and military interventions.

There are many movies and web series made on the subject, that are more or less realistic and close to reality.

Narcos, El Chapo, Queen Of South are some of the most engaging, addictive and thrilling series that most of us are hooked on to.

From an outsider's point of view, they are criminals. In the context of Mexicans, Columbians, it's just business for them.

In the words of Pablo Escobar, which is my WhatsApp status as well:

"Señores, Les voy a decir quién soy...me gano la vida haciendo negocios"

"Gentlemen, let me introduce myself...I do Business for a living"

Some of the most successful drug traders who made it big are Pablo Escobar, Felix, Guzman.

These guys were drug lords, they built empire by literally sweat and blood.

They created an industry to produce drugs and transport them and thereby generating employment to lakhs. They were bosses / Patron to many.

People like Felix or Pablo Escobar started from scratch and became one of the most successful and notorious "Businessmen" by their own efforts and belief.

Why are these web series and movies so gripping anyway? Is it because of the secrets of drug trade being exposed, the drama, the action, the violence, the politics, heroism of these dug lords, sensuous Mexican women, nudity, quality of production?

I am in love with the language - Spanish. I find the language very sweet and good on the ears - Vamos, Nada, Gracias, Salud, Senor, Amor, Lolita.

Even the swear words sounds so sweet - mierda, puta, pendejo, cabron, puta madre.

Other Key reason I am in awe with all those web series is to do with these powerful men.

The speed at which they rose to fame is astonishing. They all were innovative, High aspirations, confident, ambitious and the risk taking ability.

Most of these drug lords amassed wealth and prospered, ofcourse at the cost of their loved ones.

These men and women created an empire with their smartness, intellect and convincing abilities. People like Pablo Escobar and Miguel Felix organized the trade and brought all individual players on one board. They created Cartel/federation and United them to keep the infighting and bloodshed low. Though the intent was to create monopoly, they still created wealth for everyone involved. They had their own military to protect them and the business.

Though their means and path chosen is questionable, they eventually reached heights and achieved their goal.

They adapted many controversial and eccentric ways including brutally killing their own partners, opposite gangs and innocent people, rigging elections to get the favouring party to power, corrupting the system by forcefully bribing officials and police to not bother their business.

The ones made it big were visionaries.

Though their fate either ended with a bullet in the head or in the Jail, they have left a legacy behind and many localites worship them as Heroes.

Their stories are an inspiration to achieve our goals and be ambitious. Their ends were definitely tragic, but they eventually reached their peak.

They did everything that was needed to build their "business", achieve their dreams and earn tonnes of money.

It was just not about money and luxurious life, they wanted to be powerful, successful, excell in business, create monopoly and have control on anything to do with business. Their unrelenting efforts to keep coming back from the setbacks.

After all, that's what we aspire to do in our business as well!

Some of the brilliant dialogues in Narcos web series, summarises the takeaways for me:

"All empires are created of blood and fire."

"There are two hundred million idiots, manipulated by a million intelligent men."

"Everyone has a price, the important thing is to find out what it is."

"Geniuses are always branded as crazy."
