The Manipur Files
Murali Murthy
Would a movie "Manipur Files" also make same noise, bring out emotions, drama and arouse people, when one clan is beating and violating human rights on another clan, recorded and shown on big screen? Would it stimulate the same nationalism, patriotism?
Might not, because the numbers are not yet there.
If anyone digs and analyses the reason behind Manipur violence, it's a classic local Ethnic clash that exists, unique to every Indian state. The ethnic differences existed for decades and centuries localized to the state, be it Kashmir, U.P, W.B, Karnataka, Rajasthan and every 36 States and UTs; some amongst Caste, others between communities, few between religions.
What I fail to understand is why Opposition is hell bent, and the media upset that P.M is not making a statement. There are multiple violence and rapes that happens in India every single day, it's the responsibility of the local police and Govt to control them, not the P.M of the country.
Probable reason for this demand could be the fact that our P.M claims ownership of every good thing that happens in the country, starting from Rocket launch, GDP growth, Industry growth, Vaccine manufacturing, achievement by atheletes and others, but why not when things are going south?
Opposition is just fishing in the troubled waters, since they want to show off their newly found unity, and they don't give a hoot to the people effected by this ongoing violence.
Even if they have succeeded in getting the P.M to the parliament, he will be happy to do what he is good at, give a speach!
Supposedly the largest democracy on earth, the temple of democracy - Parliament has merely become a platform for ruling and opposition parties to score brownie points.
The baffling absence of our P.M in the parliament itself is a testament to the belief that democracy is fading in India, as many including P.M does not believe in Parliament democracy, the original purpose of which was all elected MPs to participate, give opinion to form any law. Anyway, all laws, rules are being defined by that one man, and he himself annouces those decisions on TV, typical of a dictator.
Not sure why P.M shies away from debates, interactions, conversations, discussions, but prefers monologues, bhashans and mann ki baath.
For his control on language, his orarory skills, his prowess to engage the listeners and ability to mesmerize a gathering, I don't see a logical reason why he shies away from any questioning outside and inside parliament. I am sure he is intelligent and knowledgeable enough to handle any line of questioning.
The only complaint would be that he is always into election, campaigning mode and less as a P.M. Understandably, crores of party workers, members depend on one man to win elections, it's but natural that he is campaigning all the time.
With no match to his stature, aura and oratory skills, the opposition can only try to gang him up, with no other worthy narrative or idea.
Coming back to the Manipur situation, the deafening silence of the party and the man is understandable, as they are in a fix. The situation doesn't suit their narrative & ideology, as the demand from a particular clan to be given tribal status. If that's done, a majority of the population would be identified as ST, and no more Hindus.
It's just a struggle of Party in power to cling on to power and come back to power in next elections, while opposition waiting to come to power. Some get kick by amassing wealth and money, some having lust to rule and dictate.
The caste divide, religious enemity, community based reservations, democracy continues to be a curse to our nation.
