Ganeshotsav

Bal Gangadhar Tilak - The man who started the mass celebration of Ganesha Chaturthi.

The idea and reason were justified to those times when large gatherings were banned by the Britishers. So he popularized mass celebration of Ganeshotsav, with an intent to unite all Hindus, a meeting place for all common people and to bridge the gap between the castes.

Puja, divinity, food, celebrations were used to attract people to assemble and feel togetherness and the platform was aptly used to promote nationalism and unity.

As I write this, I hear "Sheela ki jawani, I am too sexy for you", "Munni badhnam hui Darling tere liye" songs on the loud speakers, with people screaming, yelling and dancing, which in no measurable parameters, is display of Bhakthi.

I see from my balcony, men acting crazy, wild demanding their favourite songs to be played, as they dance to the tune with their group (as done in Pubs), in front of Lord Ganesha with extreme decorations.

People who organize such mass Ganeshotsav have lost relevance and objective of such celebrations, and has reduced to music and dance!

I have seen some genuine display of religious celebrations, bhajans, divinity displayed collectively in Mumbai and Pune, but no where else!

Karma Bhumi

The first impression anyone would get after watching the video is - disgust, anger, frustration.

But sit back and think before blaming that Moron abusing the poor guy...it's happening all around us, and it's probably more often than these instances on foreign lands. Asking certain section to go back to Pakistan, asking non-local language speaking guys to go back to their home states.

I only pity fellow Indians who run to foreign lands for education and work.

The growth

Disclaimer: Not a critic for criticism's sake.

Just looking at the hue and cry, and link to hyper Nationalism with the news "India becomes 5th largest economy".

Let's look at it objectively, than being emotional.

GDP is an indicator of how large the country's economy is.

And in such an unequal economy and lot of disparity that India has, is it really an indicator? Especially when 10% population holds 57% of the National Income, and bottom 50% contributes to only 13%.

Growing GDP would in that sense only mean, rich are getting richer.

Growth should be visible to a common man, not based on what Followers claim on Social Media or Politicians claim in Bhashans.

Healthcare facility, Road Infrastructure, Public Transport, Drainage, ease of living, safety and security - Forget surpassing them, Are we even anywhere closer to the quality in comparison to the Countries which many think we have surpassed them??

Growth must be felt, seen & experienced, not claimed or read!

Flooding brand Bengaluru

As Namma Bengaluru brand image is being tarnished at both national and international level, with social media flooded with memes n trolls on the flooding, what do we Bengalurians do? Do we take such memes and this outburst defensively or offensively?

In yesterday's meeting with the IT companies, our IT minister asked the industry not to tarnish Brand Bengaluru's image!! They were only pouring their concerns and losses!

To make things clear, and to the outsiders - entire city is not under water.

Out of 700 Sq Kms that Bengaluru is, probably 50 Sq Kms area covering Whitefield to Bellandur is flooded.

With the city receiving 3 times more rains than its usual, the city has withstood the rain fury in 92% of the areas.

These IT corridor on the eastern part is under water, which are all owned by politicians or their friends. They earn 100s of crores in Rent every month.

It is but obvious the mega infrastructure was developed in a short span of time, violating all rules.

Now who should hang their heads in shame? The poor / middle class who dump house garbage, constructing a wall on the drain? Or the politicians who have built IT parks over the Lakes?

In Karnataka, Rs 1,000 fine for not wearing seat belts on rear seats

So, newer rules, newer ways police can now abuse people. Be prepared guys!
One VIP Cyrus Mistry succumbed to an accident and he was not wearing seat belt in the rear, now all of us have to bear the brunt.
100s of ordinary road users keep meeting with accidents due to potholes, humps, bad roads, but no action on the officials/department.
Probably we have to wait for the day another VIP rides a bike, falls down and dies because of a pothole.

Horny Drivers

In a chaotic drive amidst a city like Bengaluru and all metros where jaywalkers, reckless autorickshaw, delivery guys on bikes, errant parking maximizes the irritations of ordinary drivers. Adding salt to the wound, there comes these Horny Drivers, who pound on their Horns mindlessly.
Why do people honk so much? As soon as the signal turns green, or in a slow moving traffic, or just driving past by you, or while crossing a hump, people just keep honking.
Dare to ask them "Why??!", and the gaze I get makes me feel I erred by asking him why he honked!
I have seen majority of the 2-wheeler riders having a finger right on the Horn button, ready to honk.
I did try to observe why people honk. The elderly drivers, new drivers who shakingly maneuver their vehicles in the traffic with anxiety showing on their faces.
And the most annoying lot, honk for no reason. They get sadistic pleasure in provoking and irritating other road users. They get some kind of kick in honking constantly and zooming past everyone.
And there are people like me, annoyed, stressed with such erratic and contrary slow drivers blocking the traffic, hit the Car horn to take out frustrations!
